Sponsored by Cru Global Leadership Office – Office of the President

Version 1.1, August 26, 2015

Overview

Cru President Steve Douglass has commissioned the formation of a special team to help undertake finding solutions and provide assistance for key projects. This team has until August 31, 2016 to make significant progress in projects like these (partial list).

  • Essentials24: Interactive Web-based discipleship tool.
  • International Orality Network: Helping to make disciples out of the world’s oral learners.
  • #ChristWorks & #FaithFriendly: Help build a campaign/awareness of the positive virtues of following Christ (i.e. as opposed to a lot of negative press Christians get).
  • EventCORE: Web-based event registration tool with enhanced housing and group features.
  • Make Your Life Count: Personal repository of 40 years of material for use in ministry.
  • Living and Telling: Training oriented at helping Christians be better in evangelism.
  • Conversational Ministry: A resource to help with making spiritual transitions in conversations.
  • Global Outreach Day & RESET: Provide resources and support to material from Steve Douglass towards these efforts.
  • Multiplying Disciples Fast Track: Shorten time from convert to leader without compromise quality.
  • Landing Internet Leads: Moving digital contacts into involved local disciple.
  • Productivity Improvement and Creative Consulting: Helping others do things better.

Internship Idea

Although most team members will be paid employees of Cru, the mindset is that this be viewed more as an internship. You will have the opportunity to work with one of the world’s largest Christian organizations in a role that puts you in contact with many other organizations. You will be able to see firsthand how things operate. Doors for future employment could potentially open. You’ll also be working under the supervision of someone with nearly 40 years of work with Cru, 30 of which have been in a direct reporting relationship to the President. You will have an opportunity to be mentored by a seasoned veteran and may potentially even have opportunity to interact with people from around the world as well as leadership within Cru.

Timing & Commitment

All projects are active or about to ramp up. So in that sense we are ready to move now. Applications for the listed positions will be accepted immediately and some decisions will commence by September 15th (some sooner).

Some positions will have regular weekly hours and others may have a short term duration (until task is finished). There will be some regular team meetings. Schedule will coincide with normal university calendar (i.e. no work during breaks). Some roles may continue into the summer of 2016. Office location is yet to be determined although a lot of work will be done remotely.

Roles

The following are both paid and volunteer positions. Compensation (hourly wage) is based on needed skills for the position. For those in volunteer roles, you are simply gaining experience and building your resume through a positive recommendation. Some will be combined and some may have more than one person.

  • Programmer/Site Builder: Assist with the development of advanced, database driven Websites using PHP/MySQL/Javascript/HTML5.
  • Social Media Connector: Develop and enhance our Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) presence for some of the above mentioned projects.
  • Film Production/Finder: The Essentials 24 project needs assistance in finding new films in multiple languages and we may also need to produce some.
  • Language Specialist: Involves the coordination of getting multiple websites translated. Role is to help coach translators along, rate quality and effectiveness.
  • Translator: We will be hiring people fluent in popular languages to do translation.
  • Help Center Editor: Going through the current 600 plus answers in our help center to confirm accuracy and to also build new answers for ongoing projects.
  • Tech Support Help Desk – Tier 2: Regularly scan our FreshDesk ticket system to do initial assessment, provide answers and escalate tickets as needed.
  • User Experience / User Interface / Audience Analysis: As various resources are being produced, this role focuses on making sure that we are meeting needs.
  • Event Planning Registrar: Assist with attendee questions and detail coordination for any events that Brass Tacks may sponsor or be involved in.
  • Program Coordinator: Assist with content and production of events.
  • Communications Assistant: Assist with the development of communication to be placed on websites, newsletters, social media posts, news releases, etc.

Application Process

If you are interested in joining the “Brass Tacks Project Internship”, you should do two things. Check the guidelines required of a Cru employee (which you’ll be). Second, you will fill out a Web based Job Inquiry Form (application).

As phase two of the application process, you’ll be required to fill out an official application that includes your agreeing to various guidelines regarding Christian testimony, practices and beliefs that are consistent with the tenets of Cru. These two documents can be found at this answer from our help desk.

Definitions

Brass Tacks: In colloquial English, the phrase to get down to brass tacks is an idiom that means to focus on essential details, such as measuring out the precise amount of an item for sale.

Special Team: From 1987-2012 we had a team here in Bloomington that was made up of part-time, talented students from the local Indiana University Cru ministry.
