What are "Combined Visits" on the User Actions Summary page?

How is the "Rating" calculated and what is it good for?

Combined Visits:

At the end of the "User Actions Summary" there is a percentage given along with a statement that talks about top users. It looks like this.

Total top users is 175 out of 2829 (6.19%)

People who have combined visits of at least 20

Here's what that all means.

  • Combined Visits: When a user arrives at the site their "visit" counter goes up by one. Visits is measuring how often they come to the site. Then as they move around on the site their "page" counter goes up by one for each interactive page that they visit (or if they make a navigation movement). So Page is then measuring how much activity. When these two numbers are added together you get the Combined Visits.
  • Top User: These are people who have a combined visits number of 20 or more. So basically they're people who've spend a little bit of time on the site.
  • Percentage: Simple math. Top users are this percentage of total users.

Rating Calculation:
The far right column is a "rating" number. It's a basic formula that looks like this. Visits + Pages + 10 times Lessons + 10 times Completed. Whereas the Combined Visits gives a baseline of who's done something. The Rating tells you who is really engaging. Here's what the other columns are measuring.
  • Visits: How often they come to a site.
  • Pages: How many times they hit an interactive page or do a page navigation.
  • Lessons: How many lessons they've done at least one thing on.
  • Completed: How many of the interactive pages they've completed.
  • Groups: The number of groups that they are participating in.

Sources of New Users:
In this table, there is a column that indicates the source of this new user.  The following explanations are offered. The code is two halves separated by an underscore (_). The left half indicates the source and the right half indicates the inbound language.
As new popular sources are identified, they will be added here.
